Once closely knit families, the Chaudharys and the Sharmas had turned into bitter foes due to a feud. So, when Chiranjeev, the eldest son of the Chaudharys revealed that he was in love with Sayuri, the eldest daughter of the Sharmas, Chiranjeev’s mother, Saroj was distraught. It was her raging ambition that had fueled the feud. She tried every method to ward off Sayuri, but Chiranjeev stood up to his mother as he had committed to a lifetime of togetherness to Sayuri.
Kanha, Chiranjeev’s younger brother, took it upon himself to convince Saroj and she finally relented, with some conditions.
On the wedding day, Chiranjeev extracted a promise out of Kanha that he will care for Sayuri, were something to happen to him. And within minutes, his bike was hit by a speeding truck. Before passing away in Kanha’s arms, Chiranjeev gave Sayuri’s hand to Kanha’s reminding him of his promise. He also made him wear his wedding headgear, indicating he wanted Kanha to take his place at the wedding.
Chiranjeev’s death made the road ahead more and more arduous for Sayuri who was made to bear the brunt of his untimely death. Troubled and in turmoil, she blamed herself for her family’s misery and decided to commit suicide. Kanha saved her, but was torn by guilt that he had not fulfilled the promise he made to Chiranjeev. And in order to keep the promise, Kanha asked for Sayuri’s hand in marriage.
Having only acknowledged each other through their mutual hatred for each other, Kanha and Sayuri were now bound in a relationship whose foundation was built of mutual love and respect.
